Bitcoin is not doing well. - oh yeah !?!?!

Sun, 07/24/2016 - 21:55

Just read this from David Seaman in his recent posting:

"Ethereum Classic,” Another Bitcoin Scam"

Bitcoin is not doing well.

After its recent reward halving, miners get only 50% of what they were previously rewarded per block, yet the price per bitcoin has not skyrocketed in response - so now miners are subsidizing losses, in many cases. Those economics cannot last forever. As more miners drop off the network, network security decreases, making Bitcoin fundamentally less secure as a record of all prior transactions on the network."

I guess I now have to add David to my list of idiots. Did someone on the bitcoin side upset this baby as he sounds like an immature kid who didn't get his way when it came to buying bitcoin.

BW.com threatens ET Classic with 51% attack

Sun, 07/24/2016 - 19:06

Chandler Guo, a representative of one of ethereum’s largest mining pools, BW.com, declared via WeChat this morning that his firm would use its hashing power to attack the Ethereum Classic network.

This is not about whether you are pro or contra hard fork. This is about a Chinese mining pool abusing their power for what they think is right.

This time it is "just" Ethereum Classic but there is no guarantee that they won't use shady and harmful practices on the Bitcoin network. Quite the contrary they showed that they are willing to do whatever it takes to get their will.

Please stay away from Chinese pools.

Dont use COIN BTM (Cottonwood Vending) in NYC unless you want to have to jump through hoops to get your money

Sun, 07/24/2016 - 17:15

So I sold some bitcoins using the coinbtm located at henley's vape shop on cleveland place. I have used CoinBTM before and i have entered all my personal info that was necessary.

So this time I go to sell some more, and the sell process goes through without asking me for any info, however after I send them my coins, now they start asking for all that info in order for me to get the cash for coins. So after I enter my info, they now tell me I have to wait for them to manually process my info. WTF?? Why didn't they ask for that info before i sent them my bitcoins.

So i called the number and explained the situation, and the guy on the phone was pretty much of no help, then got rude with me and literally hung up! He told me he was the manager too, so this asshole is the highest up i could reach. I'll admit I was a little bit angry, because I needed the money now, but nothing severe or belligerent. When you're dealing with other peoples money, you can't hang up on them!

So now here I am without my Bitcoins or money, waiting for them to verify my account, which after 3 hours, still has not happened. Don't use coinBTM's in Manhattan. And if the 'manager' is reading this, you need to treat your customers better. You can't hang up on customers who you took money from without giving any sort of help.

edit: Just fyi, I did call again and got a different guy, who was much, much nicer than the "manager" and understood my situation 100%, and offered to contact the account verification people to expedite the application. I have still yet to receive any sort of text message stating I'm verified, but at least he did something. Thank you to whoever that was for at least empathizing with my position

Investing in Bitcoin

Sun, 07/24/2016 - 13:37

Hi, Please don't ruin me for asking some very basic questions! I want to buy Bitcoin.

  1. Coinbase?
  2. Which 'wallet' to secure with?

  3. And this is the big question. What does it even mean if I buy 1 bitcoin. So let's say I get on coinbase and I spend 600+ dollars on 1 bitcoin. And then I secure it with a wallet. What happens if the stock got listed as an ETF for example? How much would my 1 bitcoin end up being worth on the stock market?

Obviously thinking very long here. But how long and how many bitcoins do some of you already own?

Thank you so much! I find this all so interesting and I got here mostly by the Ethereum stuff I've been reading about. cheers

How Do I Accept Bitcoin On My Website?

Sun, 07/24/2016 - 12:46

Hello, I would like to accept Bitcoin on my site but how exactly do I do this?

I can't run a wallet because my VPS only has a 20GB drive, I would like to use electrum but there doesn't seem to be any clear guides on how to use it.

And no, I don't not want to use Bitpay or anything like that.

Any suggestions?

Just found out about BitSquare - Decentralized Exchange. Anyone here use it?

Sun, 07/24/2016 - 12:35

Went on the website but couldn't access any live charts or the last trading price/volume/etc. What's it like? How does one transfer money into it? Does it only work with banks in certain countries?
