Official Response from BitGold Corp

Thu, 06/02/2016 - 17:32

Dear r/bitcoin Community,

We wanted to take a moment to address the recent posts on this subreddit from one of our users whose account has been suspended. In accordance with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, we do not typically address user issues in public forums and instead direct them to our Support Team, where we can properly discuss the issue at hand directly with the user. However, as the size of the deposit mentioned in the post is considerable, and the situation was not explained in its entirety, we wanted to address you as a group to respond to this. We know the identity of the specific user who has made these posts because their situation is most definitely not a common one on the BitGold platform. For those who do not know about our service, we give users the ability to easily and securely build their gold savings as an alternative to traditional banking accounts. This puts us outside the banking system, but we exercise strict regulatory compliance. Most of our users use our platform for its intended purpose, but as with all things, there are those who try to act maliciously. We have strict KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti Money Laundering) policies, and as part of these policies we may request additional information from users for further verification.

Though we cannot provide specifics on the circumstances, this user was asked for more information and they have not provided it. We implore the original poster to comply with our request to resolve this issue with our Support Team as per the Terms of Service they agreed to. The trust of our users is paramount, and we do not take account suspensions lightly, but we have a corporate responsibility to properly exercise due diligence as operators of a savings and payments service.

In related news, we recently crossed 1 Million users (https://www.bitgold.com/blog/infographic-goldmoney-kpis-may-2016/) and would like to thank all of you in the cryptocurrency community for helping us grow so quickly - and for all of the great ideas and suggestions - over the past year. It's been an incredible journey and the cryptocurrency community's views will continue to be important as we grow and evolve our platform further.

Also please note that deposits via Bitcoin we accept come with certain terms and conditions. We are very clear and upfront about these terms, in plain language, before allowing a user to make a crypto deposit on our platform. This isn't us being difficult or trying to irritate the community; we are a publicly traded company (our parent company is traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange), file quarterly reports with the exchange, and promote full compliance with the authorities everywhere we operate. The current limitations surrounding crypto deposits are due to KYC/AML/anti-fraud reasons and as soon as we can make the experience even better, we will let the community know.

In the meantime, we are confident our platform is the best way to gain exposure to real gold bullion at within 1% of the official spot price, with free insurance and protection from Brinks. We are not a cryptographic token, fractional reserve system, or anything of that nature. Your gold is FULLY allocated, and even crypto deposits into the Dubai vault can be easily redeemed by mail (we'll ship your gold to you within 3-5 days) or via ACH direct deposit to your linked bank account.

If you're new to the platform, we currently have a first deposit bonus offering to get you started toward building your gold savings. If you make a deposit of 5 grams or more within 48 hours of registration, we will credit you with a 5% bonus (to a maximum of 2.5 grams) as a way of welcoming you to the platform!

If you have any enquiries about the platform, our Support Team would be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Kind regards,

Melanie, Head of Customer Success

BitGold Corp.

We're Big House Books, a Mississippi-based group that sends free books to prisoners. We're now accepting Bitcoin donations.

Thu, 06/02/2016 - 15:34

Big House Books is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization that sends free books by request to prisoners in Mississippi correctional facilities.

Prisoners in Mississippi are not allowed to receive any reading materials unless they come from a publisher or other official organization. Many times the facilities are on lockdown and no one is allowed to access the library. So they write to us and request books. We currently are trying to fulfill over 300 requests from just about every facility in the state.

We get requests for things like mental health/counseling materials, GED prep books, and legal rights samplers. We also get requests from people on behalf of illiterate or non-English speaking friends who want to educate themselves.

We get anywhere from 50 - 100 requests every month. Each package of three books costs between $3 and $5 to ship via USPS. And now we accept Bitcoin donations through our website (http://bighousebooksms.org) We're a 501c3, so donations are tax deductible. Message me if you need our EIN to write off any donations.

Help us fight the good fight.

“Frederick Douglass taught that literacy is the path from slavery to freedom. There are many kinds of slavery and many kinds of freedom, but reading is still the path.” -- Carl Sagan

Google Doodle for Bitcoin Halving Day

Thu, 06/02/2016 - 14:20

Think it would be nice to see Google do a special Google Doodle for the forthcoming Bitcoin Halving across the globe on the day?

I'm sure if the worldwide Bitcoin community got behind this idea, Google would oblige?

Coinbase account compromised

Thu, 06/02/2016 - 12:32

Hi guys, so here I thought I was safe with .89 BTC in coinbase with 2 factor authentication set up with the google authenticator. I got a weird email from Authy the other day and it sounded like someone was trying to set up authy with my email address.

I just changed my password because I was concerned and today I checked my account and my .89 BTC has been transferred as of 3:41AM last night.

Are my bitcoins just gone now? Is there anything I can do?

UPDATE: I think my computer may have been compromised because of Teamviewer getting hacked.

Locked out of my Blockchain wallet

Thu, 06/02/2016 - 11:57

I have had the same wallet for years without issue. I am now being told that there is an error decrypting the wallet. Anybody else having this issue?

Update.......It is Microsofts fault. Damn automated update has reset some of the keys on my keyboard so that now when I enter specific keys, they are different characters. Thank God!

Bitgold denied my first withdrawal and froze my account for no reason with 10,000USD in it!!!!!

Thu, 06/02/2016 - 11:30

I deposited bitcoins with this company months ago, roughly 10,000USD, with the price of gold tanking I decide to withdraw and these are the emails I get. 1.) Prove your source of funds 2.) Your withdrawal has been rejected 3.) Your account has been closed Bearing in mind all of these were sent within a single hour of one another and I did not get a chance to respond to a single one. Now when I try to log on to my account it is gone! I am absolutely shocked by the this and I will keep a running commentary on this situation but I am warning you all against the use of this company!!!
